About Us
We are a Pentecostal church situated
in Newcastle-under-Lyme, in Staffordshire, England. Our purpose
is to serve God and help people both in the church and in the community
as a whole.
We are a church that's called to be a part of the community
as well as simply being in the community. So, while people
come from all over the Potteries to attend the services, the focus
of our activity and involvement is the Chesterton community.
The church is Pentecostal in doctrine, yet we are aware that sometimes
excesses have undermined the Pentecostal message. As a result we
lay an emphasis on balance and reality in taking the gospel to heart.
Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and traditions:
from other church traditions as well as Pentecostal, and also from
non-church backgrounds. Many find Chesterton Elim a welcome refuge
and place of healing after unhelpful or spiritually painful experiences.
If you would like someone from the church to pray for you or contact
you, please fill in our guestbook.
Elim History
The Elim movement began in 1915 - you can read the history of it
at the Elim
website.
Chesterton Elim History
Chesterton church was planted from Silverdale Elim in 1990. The
building we occupy was previously St Johns, belonging to the Church
of England. It was empty and neglected for 15 years before Chesterton
Elim moved in.
Chesterton Community History
Chesterton village is situated in the north west sector of Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Archeological excavations here reveal that there was a Roman settlement
in Chesterton during the first and second centuries A.D. Before
the Roman occupation, a British settlement flourished.
Industry recently consisted mainly of coal mining, at the Holditch
and Parkhouse collieries. Although both pits are now closed, new
industries are being attracted to the area, and Chesterton is a
Regeneration Zone.
